The castle of Tornac rises on a hill. It was built at the end of the 10th century by the Lords of Anduze to warn them of any danger coming from the plain.The Château de Tornac has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. It is currently being restored and its ruins contain beautiful vaults, some cellars and a keep.
A little history of Tornac castle
The tower of the Château de Tornac was the starting point of the most important network of signal towers in the Cévennes which leads to La Barre (located before Florac). It first communicated with the tower of Peyremale which was opposite it. During the Second World War the castle was a high place of resistance, sheltering the maquisards who would annihilate a German troop. The castle of Tornac offers very beautiful views
The old town of Anduze as well as the Cévennes and its memorable Cévennes gates. From the terrace, the view also widens out over the whole plain and all the surrounding mountain ranges.
